What the popup cycle lane could look like
What the popup cycle lane could look like

On world environment day the city council has chosen to announce that it’s scrapping the long awaited pop up cycle lane in our city. This is a kick in the teeth for those who have campaigned to put our city in a climate emergency and want us to grasp this once in a lifetime opportunity for change. Cllr Judth Smyth has responded to the scrapping of the new cycle lane on the Eastern Road and calls for the public to join forces to push the council into action.

Cllr Smyth said: “With work to create a new cycle way along the Eastern Road due to start on Monday the city council has decided to do a massive u turn and pull the scheme. Wasting money invested in the development, disappointing thousands of people supporting the campaign to make our streets safer for pedestrians (social distancing), cyclists and disabled transport and demonstrating that the Liberal Democrat commitment to a zero carbon future is skin deep at best and that they will not or cannot move from rhetoric to action. It is tragic that our city is so badly led that the cabinet cannot even implement their own plans. Those of us who want a greener, safer city will need to redouble our efforts. I am in, join us!”
